Lizeth .
The perforomance on Friday was incredible. I took my two cousins and they really enjoyed it. I had a really great time creating this performance. This class has been very interesting and it has been a great experience to have taken this class.

Nellie: Drawings
During the first week of class Allan talked about circles and how it is in everything in some form or another. That got me thinking a lot about circles, so this is what I worked on during my down time during class.
After My Barbarian's performance I was inspired to sketch some things, so I did. I basically made random lines with a pensil and then traced the image that I saw with different colored markers.
I did this last week when we were talking about mode and what the audience is in relation to the mode. (I was paying attention, drawing things next to my noted helps me remember what was being discussed :])

Nellie: My Barbarian
Last night's performance by My Barbarian was quite interesting. My favorite part was the beginning, when the three people sang their opening piece. Besides beeing perfrormed wonderfully, it was a bit creepy, and dark and twisty, which is why I enjoyed it so much. Plus, it didnt't hurt that the song was catchy.
Another aspect of the performance that I enjoyed was their political messages about Obama's goal of universal healthcare, along with supporting socialism.Well, in my opinion I do think thatthey were supporting socialism. When they are around the table talking about how to decide who dies, I find them playing the role of health insurance companies. Insurance companies are the ones who decide who qualifies to be insured or not, which I find lets them have the hand in who decides who dies and who receives benefits that will help others continue to live long healthy lives. Now, when they talk about Obama's universal healthcare initiative they make it clear that by everyone having the opportunity to have some type of health insurance, dictating how dies and who lives is not up to big health insurace companies.To many, because of his probposed universal healthcare, Obama is a socialist and from what i got from My Barbarian's last song, that is okay. That is how I enterpret their performance.

Nellie: My Opinion on Twilight
In all, I found "Twilight" to be a very informative video, with both an artistic performance and historical detail to educate viewers. I myself knew about the LA riots and the Rodney King case, but I was not aware of the effect they had on the Korean community. I saw the theme of "destroy to build" throughout film.To begin, in the African American community had not been treated justly when it came to matters of law and punishment for breaking it. The greatest example of this is the Rodney King case. The video alone makes it evident that the police were wrong and went too far. Once it was announced that the plice officers that brutally beat King were found innocent, justice was broken, but that was the final strike that eventually lead to a win for the African American community.
The three days of riot made a statement to the whole country, and no longer were the voices of the African American community silenced. Though the message was made clear, the Korean community had great loss through that process. An estimated 90% of Korean owned businesses in thr Los Angeles area were destroyed in order to make the message heard. Again, destruction was needed to build.
Performance wise, Anna Deavere Smith did a wonderful job. The way that she portrayed each person so perfectly and played them as they really were made everything so real. I felt like i wasn't watching just another movie, but seeing the events unfold directly from the eyes and mouth of those who were really there and experienced it. At times I would forget that Smith was the only on screen since she used her voice and acting skills to become the person that she is representing. Twilight is a wonderful example of how performance art can better the world through providing knowledge and a deeper understanding.
